The Whakatane Commerce Centre building was renovated to integrate seismic and fire requirements and to take advantage of the opportunity to greatly improve the existing appearance of the building.

The building required a fresh, current and vibrant identity with a strong street presence. Using different claddings and design techniques we re-established the main street building presence, rebranded the inner city building, returning the building to its former glory. The main street entry, arcade, lift and stair finishes were upgraded. Precast concrete panels were constructed and installed on the side street where the panels were painted in a dynamic ombre effect to integrate the existing cladding colours with the new concrete wall.

The overall result was a modern, vibrant and safe environment for multiple tenants and owners.
